The Bachelor NZ: Poppy says goodbye

Bachelorette Poppy Salter was left without a rose on last night's episode

After an agonising wait at last night’s penultimate rose ceremony, Arthur Green denied Poppy Salter a rose. But the eliminated bachelorette harbours no hard feelings toward the show’s leading man, saying she’d “made peace” with the idea of returning home.

“A million things were going through my head when Arthur took Dani aside to talk. I didn’t know what was being said but I knew if I was the one to go home I’d be OK with it,” reveals the Auckland yoga teacher, 24.

“As the competition progressed I got a lot better at dealing with the unknown. In the end, for me, it wasn’t a competition between us girls but a chance for Arthur to decide who he could see a future with. For that, I respect his decision.”

While Poppy acknowledges she was a closed book for much of the show, she has no regrets about the time she spent with Arthur.

“I’ve got to know him for so long and so well and suddenly I’m not going to see him anymore, so I feel a bit sad. I feel like Arthur and I laughed at the whole experience together and kept each other sane.

“I have no doubts Arthur liked me but it was clear he’d formed stronger connections with the other girls. I really hope he finds someone he can have fun with and stay with so that what we have all gone through hasn’t been for nothing.”

With Poppy’s exit from the mansion, that leaves just three women, Alysha Brown, Matilda Rice and Dani Robinson still in the running for Art’s heart.

The Bachelor NZ returns next week at 7.30PM on Tuesday. For more inside goss on Art and the remaining Bachelorettes, look out for next week’s Woman’s Day!
