The actress was recently appointed a Goodwill Ambassador for U.N. Women, a role which sees her working towards gender equality and the empowerment of women.
On Saturday, Emma helped launch a new campaign called ‘HeForShe‘ at the United Nations headquarters in New York, USA.
The campaign is all about encouraging men to take a stand for gender equality, which Emma spoke more about in a moving and powerful speech at the event.
“I was appointed as Goodwill Ambassador for U.N. Women six months ago and the more I’ve spoken about feminism, the more I have realized that fighting for women’s rights has too often become synonymous with man-hating,” Emma said.
“If there is one thing I know for certain, it is that this has to stop,” she went on.
“Men, I would like to take this opportunity to extend your formal invitation. Gender equality is your issue too.”
